George Harvie brings a blend of financial, executive, and technical expertise, with a B.A. in Economics from Simon Fraser University, advanced management training at Dalhousie University, and specialized certificates in administration and environmental health
As Delta’s CAO and Mayor, he transformed the city’s financial management, making it one of British Columbia’s best-managed municipalities, while keeping taxes among the lowest in Metro Vancouver
Under his leadership, Delta maintains one of Canada’s lowest crime rates and prioritizes public safety even when other cities cut services. First responders will always be a priority in Delta!
He has ensured Delta’s School Trustees work in equal partnership with Council on school planning – an approach unique to Delta – helping keep funding decisions focused locally in the classroom while maintaining an approximately $200 million balanced budget year after year.
He has championed inclusion, diversity, and reconciliation, launching Delta’s first anti-racism task force, and strengthening City Hall’s relationship with Tsawwassen First Nation
Under Harvie’s leadership, Delta has adopted a clear “Delta is open for business” mindset – prioritizing economic development, strengthening relationships with business leaders, and making the application and permitting processes faster and more efficient
Even during the pandemic, Harvie kept Delta moving forward, completing major projects like the North Delta track and field facility, Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre, café patios, pop-up parks, and a covered Ladner Lacrosse Box – keeping the community active, safe, connected, and engaged
He’s delivered world-class recreational spaces and transformative infrastructure, from updating the North Delta Recreation Center and building the North Delta Center For the Arts to Delta’s first Cricket pitch and 72nd Avenue upgrades he’s strengthening Delta’s resilience and quality of life
Through thoughtful planning and careful spending, George Harvie will continue to steer the city thoughtfully and responsibly through the challenges of tariffs, economic uncertainty, and global unrest – protecting our businesses, food security, and community well-being for generations to come
